Sen. Kelly Praises Key Alaskan Appointment in Trump Admin.
FAIRBANKS – Senate President Pete Kelly, R-Fairbanks, today praised the announcement by President Donald J. Trump naming Joe Balash, an Alaskan, to Assistant Secretary of the Interior, Land and Mineral management.
“Joe is a guy who has been making great things happen for the state for years,” said Sen. Kelly. “He is one of the most talented people this state has to offer and he’ll be great for our country.”
Mr. Balash currently serves as the chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan. He is the former Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources and served as Deputy Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources from 2010 to 2013.
From 2006 to 2010, he advised two governors on natural resource policy, permitting, and energy and was a staffer in the Alaska Legislature from 1998 to 2006.
Mr. Balash will need to be confirmed by the Senate Natural Resources Committee chaired by U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski.
