ANCHORAGE – Members of the Alaska Senate today formed a new majority organization including all 13 Republican senators. Colleagues selected Senator Cathy Giessel (R-Anchorage) to serve as Senate President when the 31st Legislature is sworn in on Jan. 15 in Juneau.

The Majority leadership team includes Senator Mia Costello (R-Anchorage) as Senate Majority Leader and Senator John Coghill (R-Fairbanks) as Senate Rules Chair. Gary Stevens (R-Kodiak) was selected as Legislative Council Chair.

Senator Bert Stedman (R-Sitka) and Senator Natasha von Imhof (R-Anchorage) will serve as Co-Chairs of the Senate Finance Committee. Senator Stedman will guide development of the operating budget while Senator von Imhof will oversee the state's capital spending plans and legislation.

"The Senate is committed to listening to Alaskans who have made their priorities clear: the state budget, public safety and protecting the Permanent Fund and the dividend," said Senator Giessel. "We stand ready to serve Alaskans."
