spc-andrew-garcia.jpgANCHORAGE – Fairview residents, community leaders and members of the Legislative Joint Armed Services committee were joined by Major General Andrysiak commander of the United States Army Alaska to formally honor the artistic contributions of SPC Andrew Garcia, pictured at left, for his inspired artistic contribution to the Fairview Community.

Giving freely of his time SPC Garcia, organized supplies, volunteers and worked weekends to convert a retaining wall at 10th and Hyder from graffiti into a beautiful community treasure.

"Mr. Garcia’s creativity and volunteer spirit remind me of what makes Alaska such a great place to live,” said Senator Josh Revak (R-Anchorage). “I hope your artistic contribution inspires young people to continue the tradition exemplified by Alaska’s military men and women who put service over self."

"It’s always impressive when a community member steps up and offers to help, said Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage). Mr. Garcia is defining himself as one of these outstanding individuals, first by serving his country, and now by stepping up for the community to create something so beautiful. My gratitude to Mr. Garcia for his positive contribution to Fairview and Anchorage."
